Staff John E. Breen, Ph.D., who conducted studies on post-tensioning strands for the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) in 1959, was among the 25 inaugural "Legends of Post-Tensioning" recently inducted into the Post-Tensioning Institute's (PTI) Hall of Fame. Involved with post-tensioning since the mid 1950s when post-tensioning was in its infancy, Breen's early work included two pedestrian bridges and relaxation studies on post-tensioning strands.
In addition to his work for MoDOT, Breen was involved with the design, testing and development of epoxy specifications for the first segmental precast box girder in the United States. He was also instrumental in the development of the design criteria for PT Anchorage Zones and AASHTO...
