BASF, the German chemical giant, wants to become "the most important chemical partner in the automotive industry."
Klaus-Peter Lobbe, a member of BASF's board of executive directors, said carmakers and suppliers are increasingly single-sourcing coating supplies for car bodies.
"As a globally-oriented chemical company we view this requirement as an opportunity," said Lobbe. "We intend to derive competitive advantage from it."
