Agila in doubt

The next Opel Agila may be canceled if General Motors succeeds in buying Daewoo.

The pending acquisition would add the Daewoo Matiz to GM's lineup. The Matiz and Agila are direct competitors in the mini segment and would force GM to review one or both models, GM sources said.

"We would not want two competing contenders in the same segment," said one source.

The Agila was launched in 2000. GM sold 84,000 units in western Europe last year, compared to 70,000 units for Matiz.
