Big suppliers look like big winners in the new block exemption.

That's because car manufacturers will lose their lucrative after-sales service monopoly. Currently, franchised dealers are forced to offer repairs and maintenance, using only spare parts authorized by the manufacturer.

But under new rules approved by the European Commission last week, parts makers may supply directly to independent repair shops.
