IT REMAINS a cost-effective solution for a carmaker to use a traditional platform across a wide range of vehicles. But because a conventional floorpan architecture usually comes with fixed door openings and rear window frames, the opportunity to create individual-looking models is limited. But that's all changing now that carmakers are adopting more flexible approaches and using modular components such as engines, gearboxes, axles and seats. In the third and final part of our Guide to Platforms, we look at the strategies of French carmakers PSA/Peugeot-Citroen and Renault.
