Industry: Email Alert RSS FeedJaguar F-type may not be built after all.
Automotive News Europe, March, 2002 by Rechtin, Mark
The Jaguar F-type sports car must achieve cost targets by the end of September or the project will be cancelled, Jaguar's top executive said.
Officially, Jaguar has never said the
F-type would be built. But after the F-type concept that debuted at the January 2000 Detroit auto show was widely praised, Jaguar began to seriously consider producing it.
The F-type is seen as a spiritual successor to the legendary E-type, which ceased production in 1974.
But the round of cost cuts currently taking place at Ford, Jaguar's parent, could kill plans to build the F-type.
