ZF Sachs CEO Hans-Georg H?rter said he expects "huge growth" in demand for automated manual transmissions (AMT) over the next five years.
Sachs, which specializes in transmission components and suspensions, currently produces 120,000 AMT systems a year.
With AMT, a driver can choose to let the system shift on its own, like a fully automatic transmission, or shift gears manually without using a clutch. AMT is just now being introduced in volume vehicles such as the Opel Corsa.
