EC probes aid to Azambuja plant.
De Oliveira, Paulo SoaresThe European Commission is investigating E41.7 million in incentives the Portuguese government gave to Opel's Azambuja assembly plant.
The incentives, mostly tax breaks, were offered to help convince Opel parent company General Motors to build the new Combo in Portugal rather than in low-cost Poland.
GM was considering building the Combo at its Gliwice factory in Poland, which makes the Opel Agila and Astra. The Combo is based on the Opel Corsa platform.
