Pininfarina may get niche model.

Mitsubishi Motors Europe confirmed it is in talks with Pininfarina for subcontracting the production of a new niche vehicle that could appear in 2005.

The new vehicle will probably not be a direct replacement for the Pajero/Shogun Pinin small sport-utility that is currently built by Pininfarina.

Stefan Jacoby, CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Europe, would not elaborate on the type of vehicle that could be built by Pininfarina.

"We have many options open and some of them could be a real surprise," he said.
