Automotive News Europe, July, 2002 by Ostle, DorotheE
BMW's plan to develop and build engines with PSA/Peugeot-Citroen will eventually end BMW's engine joint venture with DaimlerChrysler in Brazil.
The new alliance will produce a family of gasoline engines for Peugeot and Citroen models and for BMW's Mini. Mini engines are currently built at Tritek, a joint venture in Curitiba, Brazil, formed in 1997 by BMW and the then-Chrysler Corp.
"The purpose of the new joint venture is to develop and produce different engines for the Mini so eventually this will mean the end for Mini engines from Tritek," a BMW executive said.
