Industry: Email Alert RSS FeedOpel may get Pontiac-based roadster; Automaker also close to approving coupe-cabriolet to replace discontinued Tigra.
Automotive News Europe, August, 2002 by Brown, Peter; Ciferri, Luca
General Motors needs sales volume from Europe to justify production of the Pontiac Solstice in the USA. That means a new roadster could be launched here with the Opel badge.
Additionally, Opel will decide in the next few months whether to produce a replacement for the small Tigra coupe that was discontinued in summer 2000.
GM is "within spitting distance" of deciding whether to produce the Solstice, which was a star of January's Detroit auto show, said Mark Hogan, GM group vice president for advanced vehicle development.
