What it is: Road-rocket and sport-utility in one
The Porsche Cayenne has been the most ambitious project in the company's history, both in terms of volume and image. It also may be the riskiest.
Never before has Porsche dared to go outside its core business, high performance sports cars, to enter a segment more associated with mud and grunt than dash and class. Early indications are that the bet has paid off big: Cayenne's annual production capacity of 25,000 units is sold out for the next two years.
