Gianni Coda, a fast-talking, chain-smoking former earth-moving equipment executive, may be the key man in the struggle to fix Fiat Auto.

The 56-year-old has taken Turin by storm since arriving from Brazil in February to run the new Fiat-Lancia-Light Commercial Vehicle business unit. He's so intense that he's apt to jump on his chair to make a point.

"Fixing Fiat Auto is a hard job, but we have to do it," says Coda, his voice rising suddenly.
