Bull bars on the front of cars will be banned under a new European Union directive designed to improve pedestrian safety.
The EU also wants antilock brakes to be standard on all new cars sold in Europe by mid-decade.
The safety initiatives will be included in a directive to be published November 27 by the European Commission, said EU spokesman Peter Haugaard. The directive will then have to be adopted by national parliaments throughout the EU.
