Supplier associations are developing a code of practice to prevent automakers from abusing online reverse auctions.

"Reverse auctions could add value and benefit, but the system is undermined by the questionable practices of some vehicle manufacturers," said David Andrews, head of strategy for CLEPA, the European suppliers' association.

Andrews said suppliers are suspicious of reverse auctions and want more openness from carmakers.
