Big Tier 1 suppliers can help cut vehicle defects by forcing smaller partsmakers to tighten their quality control processes, said Harald Bolstler, vice president for Mercedes-Benz passenger-car purchasing.
"Sub-supply management is a vital task [for carmakers and their top suppliers]," Bolstler said. "Even small suppliers can bring so much risk to us. We need to ensure there are no cracks in the supply chain."
