OVER THE last 13 years Saab and Jaguar have led parallel lives. They gave up their independence within days of each other in late 1989. Jaguar was acquired by Ford and General Motors bought 50 percent of Saab.
At the time, both GM and Ford were interested in both luxury companies. In fact, for many months it seemed certain that Ford would take over Saab and GM would buy Jaguar.
