Western European new-car sales look set to end the year at 14.3 million units, a decline of 3.4 percent on 2001 levels of 14.8 million. That news is bad enough. But for certain key models, the situation is even worse.

Many high-profile vehicles suffered double-digit sales declines in the first 11 months of the year, the latest period for which sales figures are available. And you can't simply blame Europe's economic downturn for their poor performances.
