The Jaguar XJ program was a coup for aluminum supplier Alcan, says Roland Harings, director of sales and marketing at Alcan Automotive Europe.
Alcan has been keen to build its automotive business and the XJ - with its completely aluminum body-in-white - presented a major opportunity for the lightweight-metal supplier.
European carmakers routinely use aluminum hood and door panels. But "it is really a different challenge to move to complete just-in-time delivery of a complete car set," says Harings.
