BMW intends to outsell Mercedes-Benz globally by 2008 by boosting volume 40 percent, said BMW Chairman Helmut Panke.
"Why shouldn't we beat Mercedes, not just here in the USA but worldwide?" Panke said in an interview at the Detroit auto show.
The BMW brand outsold Mercedes in the USA last year: 232,032 units to 213,225. BMW came within 2,077 units of topping Lexus as the top-selling US luxury brand.
