The short life of the BMW Z8 will end this year when BMW sells the last few hundred units of a special-edition Z8 - the BMW Alpina Roadster V8.

The Alpina Roadster, which has an automatic transmission, made its press debut at the Los Angeles auto show on January 2.

The majority of the 555 Alpina Roadsters to be made will be sold in the USA, where BMW of North America has been allocated 450 units. In European markets such as the UK, a mere seven Alpina Roadsters will be available - and in left-hand drive only.
