Even US President George Bush's pledge to boost fuel-cell research can't guarantee that the technology can quickly overcome barriers to its use in automobiles.
Bush's proposed federal budget for fiscal 2004 would boost five-year funding for research to $1.7 billion ([euro]1.6 billion) from $1 billion.
