The south Korean government has decided to allow sales of diesel-powered passenger cars in the country starting in January 2005.
Currently only sport-utility vehicles and trucks can be powered by diesels in South Korea.
The move to increase diesel availablility is widely seen as strengthening the country's dominant carmaker, Hyundai Motors in its effort to penetrate Europe.
