Ford Motor Co., Caterpillar and German software firm SAP are working on new supply chain software to reduce logistics costs.

The move follows a 2001 contractual software alliance between Ford and Caterpillar aimed at combining their know-how and processes built up over decades of managing large global parts networks. Walldorf, Germany-based SAP is providing systems expertise and 30 years of experience in designing such software.
