Ford's platform strategy is evolving out of the company's desire to cut costs by spreading its technology across as many brands as possible.
Ford product developers like to talk about systems and technologies rather than platforms. The idea is to share systems in areas that customers can't see and feel, and differentiate the brands in areas they can.
