Substandard quality was just one of the factors that contributed to the decision to shift production of the Freelander from Land Rover's plant in Solihull, England.
Ford's Premier Automotive Group is trying to simplify its complicated manufacturing operations in the UK.
By moving Freelander production within three years from Solihull to Halewood, England, Premier officials believe they can accomplish two things at once:
* Get better control over the troublesome Solihull complex.
