Volkswagen group is in the process of finalizing its move from common platforms to common modules with the aim of providing clearer identities for its numerous car brands.

Ferdinand Pi?ch, the former VW group chairman, announced the new policy in November 2000. Pi?ch's strategy is now more or less implemented.

Volkswagen executives actually do not use the word platform anymore. They only talk of modular platform components.
