New laws aimed at halving road deaths in Europe by 2010 will change the shape of cars, predicts Humberto Rodriguez, Fiat-Lancia-Light Commercial Vehicle styling center director. The measures could eliminate 2,000 deaths a year caused when pedestrians' heads

hit car hoods or windshields. Rodriguez foresees longer and taller cars as the industry designs new models to comply with EU pedestrian protection standards effective July 2005. Rodriguez spoke with Automotive News Europe's Luca Ciferri in Turin.
