Slow sales have forced Skoda to cut production of its upper-middle Superb model.
Skoda dropped a second shift at its Kvasiny, Czech Republic, plant because of surplus inventory.
The elimination of the plant's second shift reduces output from 80 to 75 cars a day, an annual rate of about 18,000 units.
Skoda has been scaling back production of the slow-selling Superb from the rate of 150 a day reached in April 2002.
"The reduction is because of the excessive dealer stocks. We would like to clear these," said spokesman Jaroslav Cerny.
