Audi and Maserati have agreed to look at sharing technical knowledge and retail services.

The automakers said at the IAA in Frankfurt that they had signed a letter of intent for the cooperation. The announcement was made by Bernd Pischetsrieder, Volkswagen Group CEO, and Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, chairman of Maserati and Ferrari.

There are five areas being studied for cooperation:

* Low-volume production technologies.

* Shared components for four-wheel drive, high-output diesel engines and suspension systems.
