Fiat may have to launch a direct appeal to Ford if it is to get Martin Leach to join the company.
After more than a month of talks, a move by the former Ford of Europe chief operating officer to the top job at Fiat Auto looks increasingly difficult.
Fiat Auto wants Leach as soon as possible, but the Italian automaker is prepared to wait as long as six months. Ford insists that Leach honor a clause in his contract that forbids him to join a competitor for at least two years.
