Here are examples of non-tariff trade barriers on the European carmakers' hit list. They range from special taxes on imported cars to tax exemptions for national brands, technical regulations or cumbersome administrative formalities.
* Australia: There is a luxury car tax of 25% on any amount in excess of $AUS 57,000 paid for a new car. A full 97% of cars affected by the tax are imported. There is no similar tax on other luxury goods.
