Jaguar's R-D6 concept caught many Frankfurt show observers by surprise. Jaguar had done a better job of keeping the car a secret than automakers usually do.
The RD-6 is a very important car for Jaguar, which has struggled to be the success that Ford Motor Co. hoped for when it took ownership in 1989.
Although it is not certain the RD-6 will ever be manufactured, it does show what Jaguar is thinking about its own future. It shows Jaguar is serious about expanding aluminium in its lineup and that diesel engines will become a staple.
