The IAA 2003 at Frankfurt is being billed as the Golf versus the Astra show but it's much more than that.
This year's IAA will feature 20 world production debuts, important concept cars and key advances in diesel technology.
Volkswagen has been grabbing the headlines, not just with the new Golf but with its Concept R roadster, a design study that could signal VWOs intention to catch up with the French manufacturers Renault, Citroen and Peugeot in the style stakes.
Japanese manufacturers also are back in force this year after years of keeping a relatively low profile.
