Delphi cuts jobs
DETROIT - Delphi expects to shed 8,500 employees in the next year. About 3,000 of those jobs will be outside the USA.
The world's largest auto supplier says the cuts will make it more competitive.
The downsizing will cost Delphi $515 million ([euro]440 million) after taxes, but it will save the US-based supplier $125 million in 2004 and $200 million a year beyond that, Delphi CFO Alan Dawes said.
