Korean carmaker Kia's policy of taking direct control in key European markets has hit trouble.

Ad campaigns have been stopped and Kia cannot guarantee order delivery dates in Spain due to a dispute between the carmaker and its importers.

Spain is Kia's best European market with sales of 29,000 units through September this year, a 1.4 percent market share.

Kia decided to take direct control of imports in Spain, Portugal, France and Ireland after contracts came up for renewal on October 1 under new block exemption rules.
