The Chevrolet Niva sport-utility is to be sold in western Europe next year, probably through General Motors dealerships, not AvtoVAZ's traditional network of Lada outlets.

The four-wheel-drive vehicle is the result of a joint venture between GM, AvtoVAZ of Russia and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Shut out

Lada dealers are afraid they will be shut out of the distribution network when sales of the Niva start in Europe next year.
