Automotive News Europe, October, 2003
A looming trade war between Russia and the Czech Republic could force Skoda to quit the Russian market.
The Russian government plans to raise its 25 percent duty on Czech exports of new autos to Russia.
As a result, the Volkswagen subsidiary may abandon the Russian market or increase semi-knockdown kit assembly in the region.
The exact amount of the duty increase has not been decided.
Marek Fort, a tax specialist at accountants Deloitte & Touche, said Russian officials plan a 6 percentage point hike on Czech auto imports, pushing the duty to 31 percent.
