Business will not get any easier in 2004 for engineering consulting firm Ricardo plc, CEO Rodney Westhead said.

The company was stung by a number of order cancellations in 2003. Westhead called it Ricardo's toughest year in a decade.

Sales fell 4.6 percent to [pounds sterling]136.6 million ([euro]196.7 million) in the financial year ending June 30. Pre-tax profit fell 3 percent to [pounds sterling]16.2 million ([euro]23.3 million).

But Westhead is confident carmakers will not stay away for long.
