Tough limits in the USA on the amount of soot allowed in the air may not be tough enough to protect human health, public health analysts say.
The US Environmental Protection Agency, in a draft report, says the federal limits on exposure to soot may not be low enough - especially for fine particles.
If the analysis is upheld, the EPA could tighten the National Ambient Air Quality Standards' limits on soot exposure.
