Auto industry the world's biggest buyer of advertising; 16 of the top 100 global marketers in 2002 were carmakers.(News)(Brief Article)

Carmakers outspent all other industries on advertising in 2002. They spent $19.2 billion or 25.9 percent of the world total.

Personal care firms ranked second with 20 percent of world advertising spending and food companies came third with 13.8 percent.

Vehicle manufacturers account for 16 of the top 100 global marketers, according to a study by Automotive News Europe sister publication Advertising Age.
