Volkswagen will sell its Phaeton luxury sedan in the USA for $20,135 ([euro]17,500) less than in Europe.
Volkswagen of America Inc. has priced its 2004 model year Phaeton with a V-8 engine at $65,215.
The price is reasonably close to the $60,000 figure that US dealers had anticipated.
VW of America had been vigorously lobbying Volkswagen bosses in Germany to keep the price down in the US market.
In Germany, a Phaeton with a V-8 has a suggested retail price of [euro]73,350, or about $85,350.
