Carryover saves Alfa on GT; Carmaker plans to sell most models outside Italy.(News)

Alfa Romeo needed to invest just [euro]140 million to develop its new GT because of extensive carryovers and high production flexibility.

The five-seat two-door coupe required [euro]60 million for research and development and [euro]80 million of specific tooling.

Carmakers often spend [euro]180 million to [euro]200 million to develop a low-volume coupe.

The GT is using the front platform segment of the Alfa Romeo 147 hatchback, the central portion of the 156 Sportwagon and the rear portion of the 156 sedan.
