Skoda expands east; Czech automaker grows in the Ukraine.(News)

Skoda will more than triple its vehicle assembly in the Ukraine this year, leading Volkswagen group's surge in this market of 52 million people.

Assembly is expected to exceed 6,700 units in 2003, up from 1,965 units last year. Production is expected to reach 11,200 units in 2004 and 40,000 units by 2005.

The vehicles are imported as semiknockdown kits and assembled in the locally owned Eurocar plant.
