Suppliers are pouring record amounts of money into electronics research and development.

The instruments underline the importance of electronics in current and future automotive technology.

Auto electronics companies and divisions are spending nearly 10 percent of their sales revenue on r&d - well above the automotive industry average of about 4 percent.

Eighty percent of all automotive innovation is in electronics, said Martin Thoone, global director of electronics at Visteon.
