Automotive News Europe, January, 2004
Italian researchers are developing a new way to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions.
The Fiat Research Center (CRF) has created a variable-valve system that could help automakers fulfill Euro 5 emission requirements for diesel engines without the need of a catalytic converter for NOx.
CRF calls its new technology Uniair.
It is an electronically controlled, hydraulic valve-variable actuation system.
Value manipulation
For every cylinder in every cycle Uniair allows a valve to be actuated once, twice or not at all.
