Renault hopes to reach a groundbreaking flexible-working deal with Spanish trade unions.

The French automaker wants to introduce work schedules that better reflect fluctuations in demand, said Pierre-Alain de Smedt, Renault's engineering and manufacturing chief.

Automakers building in Spain complain that the country's labor unions are inflexible over issues such as working extra shifts and Sundays.

ANFAC, Spain's national carmaker association is worried that the country will lose more production to eastern European countries.
