Ford plans to build a second car assembly plant in China.

Ford's Land Rover and Volvo brands may be built at the plant in Nanjing, a city near Shanghai in eastern China.

Chang'an Ford has signed a memorandum of understanding with government officials for permission to build the plant.

Chang'an Ford is a joint venture between Ford and Chang'an Automobile Group in Chongqing in southwest China.

The joint venture currently builds the Fiesta and Mondeo in Chongqing. Ford sold 17,000 cars in China last year.
