Audi spent about [euro]530 million to start production of the new Audi A6 at its Neckarsulm, Germany, plant. Almost half of the investment - about [euro]260 million - went into a new body manufacturing building and other facilities used to create the A6's aluminum and steel frame. The mixture of materials makes the new A6 about 30kg lighter than its predecessor. The car goes on sale in Europe in May. Global sales of the current model averaged about 150,000 a year.
