Scheele asks EU to analyze cost-benefit of new rules; Europe's automakers fear lawmakers are going too far.(News)

European automakers are demanding that the European Commission obtain an independent cost-benefit analysis before imposing new regulations on the auto industry.

A third-party analysis is essential to prevent European automakers from being regulated out of business, said Nick Scheele, Ford Motor Co. president and chief operating officer.

"We think that will be beneficial for the industry and beneficial for the European Commission," Scheele said.
